Founded in 1931, PIA is a national trade association that represents member insurance agents and their employees in all 50 states, Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia, selling and servicing all kinds of insurance, but specializing in coverage of automobiles, homes and businesses. PIA members treat their customers like neighbors, providing personal support and service. They are Local Agents Serving Main Street America.

The PIA Partnership, established in 1996, is a group of insurance companies that work collaboratively with PIA agents and leadership to conduct research and develop tools and resources designed to benefit professional independent insurance agents. The participants are committed to working with the American Agency System to increase market share by improving the dialogue between agencies and companies.
